That's Life...Part Two
As promised, here is an updated version of how we spend our week. You read about Sunday and Monday in the last post. Well, Tuesdays and Thursdays are rather Swedish intensive. On Tuesday, I attend the weekly Elim Church staff meetings where the church's leaders worship together (sing, praise, pray), analyze the previous Sunday's service, talk about future events and schedules, and then discuss the following Sunday's Scripture passage. I have a great time as it is so good to develop friendships with the leaders at Elim. It is an aid to my Swedish as well.
It is interesting that a bit of Swedish culture plays into the discussion of the following Sunday's text. That is, everybody has a right and is given the opportunity to have some input on what they think the passage is saying. I think this kind of collaboration is good and helps the entire group work their way through various Scriptures.
Renée's schedule at home is pretty much the same every school day. She does school with Emma Kate during the morning and early afternoon. When the older girls come home she does home school with them as well, in our own school lovingly dubbed Amare Classical School. The girls are working through The Story of the World by Susan Wise Bauer, keeping up with English studies, Saxon Math, and also some Latin (with their beloved Latin teacher, the esteemed Mr. Mills). They also practice their piano pieces every day and go to piano lessons every Thursday afternoon. Our school is in session from Monday through Thursday, and then we enjoy our Friday afternoons and evenings as "Family Game/Movie Night".
On Thursday I go to SALT, which is a practical theology training arm of the Swedish Evangelical Free denomination. I am learning from David Johansson how the program works, its aims, and how I can be a part of the teaching and discussions this coming fall. I am excited about this opportunity as the program attempts to take the Scriptures and theology and connect them with true life experience. All those who have been to seminary know how difficult this task can be.
Fridays are great, as I usually have discipleship meetings in the morning and early afternoon and then come home to our festive family nights. We usually watch a movie that we have here at home. As the girls get older, they are able to watch more 'mature' comedies. One of their favorites is "What's Up Doc" with Barbara Streisand and Ryan O'Neal. If you have not seen that in a while, it is highly recommended if you like screwball comedies. And when you're trying to adjust to a foreign culture and feel like a screwball most of the time...it just hits the spot.
Saturdays look like...well, probably like your Saturdays. Grocery shopping, house cleaning, you know, fun stuff. That is it for now! --MM☧
I just have to comment that What's Up Doc is my favorite movie of all time. In fact, I just noticed it yesterday in the cabinet and thought how I must've watched it 100 times and never get tired of it, still can't keep up with which bag is which.
